Street Naming Application
Any person may petition Yavapai County to name an unnamed easement/road/street. The Addressing Unit may accept the petition if the following requirements are met:
Contact the Addressing Unit with at least 4 possible street names per street. Also the Addressing Unit will need to review the location for the proposed street name to determine if the location is acceptable.
- After receiving the initial approval to continue, you will need to circulate a petition. The petition must contain the signatures of at least 51% of the adjacent property owners to the subject easement/road/street. The petition shall have the first street name choice, and three alternate street name choices for the subject easement/road/street.
- A complete mailing list of the adjacent property owners to the subject easement/road/street. If unknown, this information may be obtained bycontacting the Yavapai County Assessor's Office.
- A simple, hand-drawn, general map illustrating the location of the subject easement/road/street.
- Recorded description (either written legal description or survey map) of the subject easement/road/street.
- An access permit, only if the subject easement/road/street intersects with a County Maintained Road. Pleasecontact the Yavapai County Public Works Department to obtain this permit.

Development Street Naming Form
In the planning stages of a new subdivision or a 36 or more acres record of survey, the developers need to submit a list of proposed street names to the Yavapai County Addressing Office for review by filling in the Development Street Name Form
. Once the form has been received, Yavapai County will send the list to 9-1-1 dispatch and the proper Fire Department for a complete review. After all review comments are returned to the Addressing Office, then Yavapai County will make the final decision on what names are approved. Yavapai County will then either fax or email the approved names back to the developer or appropriate contact. We require that you submit at least twice as many names as needed. If you submit more names than required, then you increase your chances of having enough names approved. Once you’ve completed the form, you can either fax or email the form to us. For further information, please contact the Addressing Unit.
| Changing Private or Public Street Names |
Street Name Change Application
The process to change a roadway name is almost the same process as naming a roadway. The difference is a filing fee of $300.00 plus an additional $20.00 per adjacent parcel regardless of access. The change process has to go to the Board of Supervisors for a final decision. The Board of Supervisors will only consider street name changes that are a duplication in an emergency response area, or if the street name conflicts with the Addressing & Street Naming Ordinance. The Board of Supervisors will not consider street name changes due to trivial matters (ie: general dislike of road name).

Private Roadways
Private Street Sign Standards
Yavapai County may officially recognize a street name or may assign physical addresses along a private roadway, however the roadway remains private. The private/public status of a street or easement remains unchanged after it has been named or renamed, therefore the maintenance, signage responsibility, and liability will also remain. Above is a link for where you may purchase private street signs or simply open the yellow pages part of the phone book to Signs and choose someone in there to create your private road sign.
